Skarvelis was awarded an Honours Piano Diploma (2nd class) and studied Advanced Theory with Sophia Giakoumidou, Kostas Gaitanos, Kostas Korakas, and George Georgiadis. He studied composition with Robin Stone, Theodore Antoniou, and WietoldSzalonek.
He attended masterclasses at the Mozarteum (summer sessions), and he participated in international piano performance and pedagogy seminars with many renowned practitioners, including Lillian Freudlich, TinkaKnoff, OxanaYablonskaya, Konstantin Ganev, George Hadjinikos, EugenRabbin, Peter Jacoby, among others.
Skarvelis won several prizes in composition and piano competitions - 1st Prize at the ‘Jeunesse Musicale Competition’ (1975), a 2nd Prize and two 3rd Prizes at the Athens Conservatorium competitions in 1994, 1991, and 1988 respectively.
His chamber music and 2nd Piano Concerto have been repeatedly programmed at the National Classical radio in Greece. He composed the music for Anthony Kasitas’ film A-kinisi-A, and participated in the Information and Technology Exhibition in 1994.
Skarvelis was invited as jury member at the 1994 ‘CONZERTEUM’ Piano Competition, sponsored by the EEC. He has presented several works for piano and chamber ensemble under the auspices of the Franco-Hellenic Association and the Heelenic American Union, and at ‘Parnassos’ concert hall among others.
He collaborates with the Hellenic Conservatorium and is Director of Music Studies at the Municipal Conservatory of Aharnai.
